Viet Hoang, Systems Engineer

In which department do you work, and what are your responsibilities?

“I work as a systems engineer in the Electric & Control Systems division. In this role, I serve as the liaison between the electrical, software, and mechanical departments on development projects for rail vehicles. Based on what a subassembly must be capable of in the finished vehicle, I define technical requirements for designers and suppliers. Together, we then determine how the subassembly should be designed and which key technical specifications must be met.”

Where are you from, and how did you end up at cideon engineering?

I’m originally from Hildesheim in Lower Saxony and studied electrical engineering (specializing in energy technology) in Aachen. I joined cideon engineering as a recent graduate because, during my studies, I focused on topics such as the topologies of electric rail systems, including streetcars and subways. To be honest, though, right after I graduated, I didn’t really know exactly what I wanted to do. During the job interview, cideon engineering convinced me that the rail vehicle industry offers many opportunities and promising prospects for the future. My decision to start in Chemnitz stemmed from a desire to try something new far away from home.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I’m part of a large team here and have the opportunity to meet lots of new people. Working for an engineering services provider gives you the chance to experience a wide variety of projects, perspectives, and clients. This allows me to put my high level of motivation to good use and develop quickly. Variety is guaranteed. I also feel like I’m making progress every day, both personally and professionally.

What qualifications should prospective candidates have to work as a systems engineer?

You should be open to new ideas, able to work flexibly and independently, and have a strong sense of responsibility, since as a systems engineer, you are responsible for your system.

How have you settled into life in Chemnitz despite the pandemic?

I’ve met some really nice coworkers here, and I spend my free time with them, too. Since the lockdown, most activities have been limited, but I’m making the best of the situation, and I’m looking forward to the time after this even more.

What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy hiking; Chemnitz and the surrounding area offer excellent hiking opportunities. I also enjoy exploring different cuisines and love to cook.

What’s the first thing you’ll do in Chemnitz once the pandemic is over?

I’m going to visit the Saxon Industrial Museum.

Would you recommend cideon engineering as an employer? If so, why?

Yes, because even as a new graduate, you’re very welcome here. I work in a young department with a very collegial atmosphere. That makes you feel welcome from the very first second. Thanks to the flat hierarchies, you have direct contact with your supervisor and can voice your requests or concerns at any time. The overall package—including compensation, benefits, and opportunities for growth—is a great fit for me. Here, you’re challenged and supported, and you feel like an important part of the team. This gives you the chance to truly “flourish.”
