Vivien Leucht, Systems Engineer
Where are you from, and how did you end up at cideon engineering?
I grew up in Dessau, Saxony-Anhalt, and have lived in Dresden since 2009, where I studied mechanical engineering at the HTW. I joined cideon engineering as a new graduate through a staffing agency. After graduating, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do—but I’ve always been interested in sustainability. In that regard, cideon engineering, as part of the rail vehicle industry, offered me a forward-looking career path.
Which areas have you had the chance to explore so far?
I worked for 21 months in the Mechanical Engineering/Design department at the company’s headquarters in Bautzen. There, I was part of a large project team that helped develop day and night trains. My responsibilities were varied and included, among other things, design work in various areas of interior fit-out, documentation and drawing preparation, as well as data entry and maintenance in SAP.
After being hired as a permanent employee, I transferred to the Electrical & Control Systems department earlier this year, which means I now work at the Chemnitz or Dresden location.
What are your current responsibilities at cideon engineering?
My responsibilities currently consist of two areas. On the one hand, I am familiarizing myself with the field of systems engineering; on the other hand, I am serving as the department’s technical assistant as a substitute during a parent’s leave of absence.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
My responsibilities are very varied and challenging. Here, I have the opportunity to think outside the box and learn about new areas, even those outside my actual field of study. At the same time, I really enjoy working with my colleagues.
What do you do in your free time?
I’m currently taking courses in programming as a non-degree student at Harvard University (via edx.org). To stay active, I usually do gymnastics at a club. Since that’s unfortunately not possible right now, I’ve discovered roller skating as an alternative, so to speak.
Would you recommend cideon engineering as an employer? If so, why?
From the very beginning, I’ve felt very welcome and supported at cideon engineering. Because of the company’s size, there’s a family-like work atmosphere, which I personally really appreciate. You’re part of a community and meet people who influence you both professionally and personally, so you get to have a great time together outside of work, in your free time, or at company events. The flex-time policy allows me to organize my work hours flexibly.
