Historic Mine Train

At the Wolfstein Visitor Limestone Mine, we have successfully completed the technical refurbishment and modernization of the approximately 45-year-old mine train. Florian Zylla and Oliver Hahner served as technical supervisors for the project.

A particular challenge was replacing worn-out components for which identical replacement parts were no longer available. At the same time, existing interfaces, limited installation space, and operational requirements had to be taken into account.

Among other things, the following were implemented:
• Replacement of the drive motors
• Retrofitting and modernization of the control cabinet technology
• Installation of a new audio system
• Replacement of car-to-car connectors
• Replacement of wheels, chains, and bearings
• More accessible boarding thanks to a fold-up seat design and new handrails

These measures have improved the train’s availability, maintainability, and long-term usability. It has recently been reopened to the public.
