Standardization work

For some time now, cideon engineering has been actively involved in the standardization work of CEN/TC 256/SC 2/WG 02/SG.

On behalf of the VPI, we are undertaking the revision of EN 12663 (Strength of Rail Vehicles)—specifically Part 2, which covers freight cars. The goal is to reunite this part with Part 1 in the future.

Together with GATX, Deutsche Bahn, Onrail, and VTG, we lead the German mirror group and develop requirements for future freight cars.

The goal here is not to reinvent everything, but rather:
✅ to replace requirements that are no longer up to date
✅ to close existing gaps (e.g., tank cars and auto transport cars)
✅ retaining what has been proven effective
✅ allowing both calculations and tests

It is an exciting and responsible job that always requires a willingness to compromise.

We would like to thank Oliver Behrens (GATX) and Detlef K. (OnRail) for their support, as well as our colleagues Thomas Labedzki and Tilo Mey for their dedication to this project.
